Sain Bulleh Shah
साईं बुल्लेशाहअठारहवीं शताब्दी में पंजाब में हुए सूफ़ी फ़कीर साईं बुल्लेशाह, हज़रत मुहम्मद साहिब के वंशज माने जाते थे और इसलिए उनकी गिनती समाज के उच्चतम वर्ग के सदस्यों में होती थी। बुल्लेशाह की कविताएँ अपने आध्यात्मिक गुरु इनायत शाह (जो एक साधारण माली थे) के प्रति उनके असीम प्रेम को व्यक्त करती हैं। आत्मा और परमात्मा तथा गुरु और शिष्य के प्रेमपूर्ण संबंध को प्रकट करने के लिए बुल्लेशाह ने पंजाब की हीर और राँझे की प्रेम कथा का प्रतीक के रूप में प्रयोग किया है। बुल्लेशाह को अपने अभिमानपूर्ण व्यवहार के कारण कुछ समय के लिए अपने सतगुरु का वियोग सहना पड़ा। उस अवधि में लिखी उनकी कविताओं में सतगुरु की संगति और दीदार की उनकी तीव्र तड़प प्रकट होती है। बुल्लेशाह का जीवन और उनकी कविताएँ अध्यात्म मार्ग पर निर्मल प्रेम के महत्त्व और कर्मकांड की निरर्थकता को दर्शाती हैं और यह भी स्पष्ट करती हैं कि मनुष्य के बनाए जाति, वर्ग आदि के भेदभाव का सच्ची भक्ति से कोई संबंध नहीं है। A mystic in the Sufi tradition who lived in eighteenth century Punjab, Bulleh Shah was said to be a descendent of the prophet Muhammad and was therefore considered a member of the highest level of society. Bulleh Shah’s poems reveal his unquenchable love for his spiritual Master, Inayat Shah, who was a simple gardener. In his poems, Bulleh Shah uses the allegory of the romance of Heer and Ranja to symbolize the relationship of the Master and disciple, the Lord and the soul. Bulleh Shah was estranged from his Master for a certain period because of his arrogant behaviour, and the poems he wrote during that period convey his intense longing for the company of his Master. Bulleh Shah’s life and his poetry demonstrate the importance of pure love on the spiritual path, the futility of traditional religion and rituals, and the irrelevance of caste, class, and other man made divisions.
