CHAPTER 1
The Divine Design
- John 1:1-3 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
- John 14:20 – At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and
ye in me, and I in you.
John 14:23 – If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. - John 10:5 – And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee
from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
John 10:27 – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
- John 3:17-18 – For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- Matt. 6:30 – Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
- Matt. 12:46-50 – While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
- Matt. 12:31-32 – Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
- Maharaj Jagat Singh, Spiritual Bouquet, quote 35: “One day’s negligence in bhajan retards the progress of the journey by one month.”
- Matt. 12:31-32. See Note 7.
- John 8:28 – Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
- Matt. 5:4.
CHAPTER 2
Creating the Atmosphere
ESSENTIAL PREREQUISITES
- Matt. 7:24-27 – Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell and great was the fall of it.
- John 8:10-11 – When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
- Matt. 6:22.
- Rai Sahib Munshi Ram, With the Three Masters, Vol. 1, p. 111.
- John. 16:7 – Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
- John 14:4 – And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
- John 8:28 – Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
- Matt. 12:31-32. See Note 7, The Divine Design.
WAY OF LIFE
- Baba Jaimal Singh, Spiritual Letters.
CHAPTER 3
Meditation
CONCENTRATION
- Matt. 7:7 – Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
DYING WHILE LIVING
- 1 Cor. 15:31.
- John 10:18 – No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.
DHYAN – CONTEMPLATION
- John 16:7. See Note 5, Essential Prerequisites.
- John 10:16 – And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
- Matt. 6:22.
- Matt. 17:5-6 – behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
- Exod. 3:2 – And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame
of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush
burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
Exod. 19:16, 18 – And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud. And Mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
BHAJAN – LISTENING TO THE DIVINE SOUND
- Maharaj Charan Singh, Divine Light, Letter 377: “What you say about hearing the bell Sound, loud and clear, on meeting this other man was, in fact, a warning to you from the Master to beware of the pitfall and to tell you that you were doing wrong in entertaining such desires.”
- John 3:8 – The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
- Maharaj Sawan Singh, Spiritual Gems, letter 13: “If the nirat is not developed, no real progress can be made, even if you go on hearing the Sound all your life.”
- Baba Jaimal Singh, Spiritual Letters, letter 28: “When you sit in bhajan, whatever Sound you hear in the beginning, like that of the working of a mill or that of a railway engine, or the sound of fire in the oven (tandoor), put your mind and surat (attention) into it.”
INNER GUIDANCE
- Matt. 10:28 – And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul.
- John 10:4-5, 7-8, 10, 27 – And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
- Maharaj Sawan Singh, Spiritual Gems, letter 76: “What you have said about seeing the Radiant Form of Master Jesus is quite true. You will meet Him again when you go in, but you are to go much higher up and beyond Him. You should die daily, as you died on the day you saw the vision of Christ.”
- John 14:2 – In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not
so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
John 14:20 – At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
THE EFFECT OF MEDITATION
- Matt. 5:14, 16 – Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
LOVE AND DEVOTION
- John 16:21-22 – A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
- Matt. 5:4.
- Matt. 5:4.
- John 16:7. See Note 5, Essential Prerequisites.
- John 3:17. See Note 4, The Divine Design.
DIVINE GRACE
- Matt. 7:13-14 – Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
- Matt. 16:24 – Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
- Mark 10:17-22 – And when he was gone forth into the way, there
came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what
shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why
callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God. Thou
knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not
steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and
mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I
observed from my youth. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said
unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast,
and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come,
take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and
went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

- John 4:35 – Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
LOVE IS HIS GIFT
- John 3:3 – Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
- John 1:5-7 – And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
- 32. Matt. 5:4.
